Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) wurde 1966 von einem norwegischem Reeder gegründet um Karibikkreuzfahrten ab Miami anzubieten. Ende der 90er Jahre wurde NCL dann die drittgrößte Kreuzfahrtgesellschaft. Zur Muttergesellschaft gehören noch die Reedereien Oceania und Regent Seven Seas. Die Reederei hat zur Zeit 16 Schiffe, die von außen alle sehr farbenfroh bemalt sind.

Die Norwegian Jade (Baujahr 2006 in Papenburg) ist 294 m lang und 32 m breit. 2.402 Gäste bei Doppelbelegung passen auf´s Schiff. Es wurde erst 2017 renoviert und hat ein  neues Aussehen bekommen. Das Schiff hat 16 Restaurants, davon sind sechs im Preis inklusive und an 11 Bars kann man sich betrinken. Desweiteren gibt es natürlich die üblichen Einrichtungen wie Sportplatz, Swimming Pools, Whirpools, Casino, Theater, Fitness-Studio und gegen Aufpreis das Spa.

Bisher hatte ich von der Reederei eines der großen Schiffe die „Breakaway“ besichtigt; dies ist meine erste Reise mit einem amerikanischem Schiff. In der Firma haben wir ein super Angebot für diese Kurzreise bekommen, so dass etliche Mitarbeiter gebucht haben; sogar fast alle aus meinem Team. Am Ende waren es wohl um die 50, da man sehr viele Kollegen in einem so großem Unternehmen nicht kennt, habe ich etwa 20-25 an Bord gesehen.
Ich bin zusammen mit meiner Kollegin in eine Kabine, wir hatten eine Balkonkabine.

Es gab unterschiedliche Flüge, wir hatten den ersten in aller Früh. Die Schlange am Hamburger Flughafen war so lang, dass wir es gerade so geschafft haben. Mit British Airways flogen wir von Hamburg nach London-Heathrow und dann mit dem Shuttle-Bus nach Southampton. Am Hafen angekommen hat es noch eine ganze Weile gedauert, bis der Check-In begann. Die nächste Gruppe war mittlerweile auch unterwegs.

Endlich an Bord angekommen haben wir uns erst einmal in die zum Glück dagewesene Sonne auf die Liegen am Pool gelegt. Getränke waren inklusive, daher hatten wir dann auch einige Cocktails „getestet“. An beiden Tagen lagen wir die meiste Zeit eigentlich am Pool, es gab auch Live-Musik dort.
Ich habe das Schiff wohl am ausführlichsten erkundet. Wir habe auch eine tolle Theater-Aufführung besucht. Am zweiten Abend haben wir zusammen mit um die 10 Leute in einem der À-la-carte-Restaurants gegessen. Viel Zeit war nicht, aber ins Fitness-Studio hab ich es doch geschafft und ich war sogar einmal kurz im Pool.

Das Essen war gut, aber die Zeit war leider viel zu kurz um alle Restaurants zu testen. Es war toll mit so vielen Kollegen unterwegs zu sein, es hat viel Spaß gebracht und würde es immer wieder machen.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) was founded in 1966 from a Norwegian shipowner to offer cruises in the Caribbean from Miami. In the end of the 90s NCL became the third biggest shipping company worldwide. Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas belong to the holding company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.. NCL has currently 16 ships. They all have a nice colorful painting on the outside.

The Norwegian Jade (2006) has a length of 294 m and a width of 32 m. 2,402 passengers (double occupancy) fit on this vessel. The last renovation was in 2017. The ship got a whole new interior design. The Jade has 16 restaurants from which six are included in the price. You can get drunked at 11 bars. You have the usual facilities on board like sports field, swimming pool, jacuzzis, casino, theater, fitness center and for a surcharge the spa.

Lounge

Since then I only did a ship visit with a bigger ship from this shipping company. This is my first cruise on an American ship. At work we got a great offer for this cruise so several employees booked it, almost everybody from my team. At the end I heard we were about 50 people from our company. Because we do not know every co-worker in this big company we met only about 20 to 25 of us. With my co-worker we had a balcony cabin.

There were different flights. Ours was the earliest one; actually very very early. The line at the Airport Hamburg was so long that we just made it on the flight. With British Airways we flew to London-Heathrow and then by shuttle bus to Southampton. When we arrived at the port it took quite a while until the embarkation started. The next group of co-workers were already on its way.

When we were finally on board we went pretty much straight to the sundeck. Thankfully the sun was shining and we could enjoy it in the deckchairs. We also tried the cocktails as we had all inclusive on this cruise. On both days we spent most of the time at the pool. They even had live music there.
I explored the ship probably more comprehensive than the others. For the second dinner we ate in a bigger group of about 10 people in one of the à la carte restaurants. Two days were not enough time but still I made it to the fitness center and even been in the swimming pool.

The food was good enough. Unfortunately there was not enough time to try all the restaurants and bars. It was great to be away with co-workers. I had lots of fun and would do it again anytime.

Mini Cruise to Oslo

Die Color Line ist eine norwegische Reederei, die vier Fährlinien und sechs Schiffe betreibt. Ende 2004 wurde das 223 m lange und 35 m breite Schiff getauft. Die Fährverbindung Kiel – Oslo – Kiel wird von den beiden Schiffen Fantasy und Magic durchgeführt. Das Schiff kann 2.400 Passagiere und 750 PKWs transportieren. Die Fantasy hat weniger Kabinen, kann aber mehr Autos mitnehmen als die Magic. Das Schiff hat 15 Decks, es gibt 6 Restaurants/Cafés/Bistros und dreii Bars, ein Theater, Casino, Teens-Bereich, Duty Free Shop sowie gegen Gebühr das Aqualand und Fitness-Studio. Die Linie Kiel - Oslo besteht seit 1961 und ist die einzige direkte Verbindung zwischen Deutschland und Norwegen.

Color Fantasy

Ich war mit nem Kumpel unterwegs. Das Schiff liegt recht nah am Bahnhof. Im Supermarkt in der Nähe des Terminals haben wir uns mit Essen und Getränken eingedeckt. Die Reise startet um 14 h, Einschiffen kann man ab 13 h. Am nächsten Morgen um 10 h ist man dann in Norwegen und muss dann 3,5 Stunden später wieder zurück an Bord sein. In Kiel ist man dann wieder am folgendem Tag um 10 h.

Wir hatten die einfachste Innenkabine mit einem Schlafsofa und einem unterem Klappbett. Das wichtigste ist die leere Mini-Bar und sogar ein paar Becher sind vorhanden. Die Kreuzfahrt wird gerne gemacht von Kegelclubs, Junggesellenabschieden etc. Inklusive war zweimal das Frühstücksbuffet. Es war sehr vielseitig, aber einfach; kann man nicht meckern.

Das Schiff ist erstaunlicherweise sehr schön und sieht schon luxuriös aus, die Kabinengänge fand ich mit am schönsten im Vergleich zu anderen Schiffen und hier habe ich auch eine der besten Theater-Shows gesehen. Es war ein Mix aus Komik, Musik und Gesang.
Am ersten Tag haben wir das Schiff erkundet, haben das sonnige Wetter auf dem Sonnendeck genossen und ansonsten gibt es tatsächlich nicht so viel zu tun, wie auf einer normalen Kreuzfahrt, den es gibt kaum Programm. Es gibt einige Geschäfte zum stöbern. Die Unterschiede zu Kreuzfahrtschiffen sind: der Duty Free Laden, man zahlt direkt in bar (in Norwegische Kronen oder Euros), das Getränke an Bord zu bringen erlaubt sind und dass das Fitnessstudio, Spaßbad und auch Essen gegen Aufpreis sind.

Die norwegischen Preise sind deutlich höher, als sogar Flughafenpreise. Wir hätten uns mehr Essen mitnehmen sollen, am Nachmittag haben wir usn doch einen sündhaft teuren Burger mit Pommes im Diner gegönnt.

In Oslo angekommen sind wir auf Geocaching-Tour gegangen. Das Schiff legt etwa eine halbe Stunde Fußwg vom Zentrum Oslos entfernt. Natürlich mit unseren Umwegen haben wir viel länger gebraucht. In den dreieinhalb Stunden war es eher eine Wanderung vom Schiff in die Innenstadt und zurück. Allerdings waren wir etwas langsam auf dem Rückweg. Mit der Bahn hat es auch nicht geklappt, da man vorher eine Fahrkarte benötigt, also schnell ein Taxi angehalten und wir kamen auch nur so gerade rechtzeitig.

Wir hatten viel Glück mit dem Wetter. Ein Sonnenbad auf dem Sonnendeck während wir durch die wunderschöne Fjordlandschaft fuhren. Ein wenig Kartenspielen in der Kabine, denn es gab woanders einfach keine geeignete Möglichkeit und viel mehr haben wir eigentlich nicht gemacht. Abends haben wir uns eine Pizza beim Italiener gegönnt.

Nach dem Frühstück waren wir auch zurück in Kiel und ab nach Hause. Eine sehr schöne Tour, kann ich nur empfehlen.

Color Fantasy 11 - 13 June 2018

Color Line is a Norwegian shipping company with four ferry lines and six ships. The vessel was named end of 2004. It is 223 long and has a width of 35 m. Two ships do the same route from Kiel to Oslo and back – the „Magic“ and the „Fantasy“. The Fantasy has a capacity of 2,400 passengers and 750 cars. The Fantasy has less cabins but can hold more cars than the Magic. The ship has 15 decks and there are six restaurants/cafes/bistros and three bars; also there is a theater, casino, teen area, duty free shop and for an extra fee you can use the small aqualand and fitness area.The ferry line Kiel – Oslo exist since 1961 and is the only direct connection between Germany and Norway.

The port for this ship in Kiel is located quiet near the train station. In the supermarket we stocked up with food and drinks because there is an empty mini fridge in the cabins. The journey starts at 2 pm and you can embark from 1 pm on. The next morning you will be in Oslo at 10 am and after 3.5 hours you have to be back on board. At 10 am the following morning you are back in Kiel.
We booked a simple twin-bed interior cabin with a sleeping couch and a lower fold-out bed. This cruise is famous with skittles clubs and stag/hens nights. Breakfast was included in our rate. The food is various but simple; nothing to complain.

In Oslo

The ship has a surprisingly beautiful design and looks quite luxurious. The corridors with the cabins are one of the nicest I have seen so far and I saw one of the best theater shows. It was a mix of dancing, singing and comedy.
The first day we explored the ship. We enjoyed the sunny weather on deck. There is not really much more to do. There are some shops to do window shopping. The difference of a normal cruise ship is that you will have a lot more program and you have food, the fitness aea and swimming pools with jacuzzis included. On the ferries you have a duty free shop and you pay cash (in Euros or Norwegian Krone). It is okay to bring your own drinks and food on board. The down part is the high Norwegian prices.
We should have brought more food. In the afternoon we were hungry and had an really expensive burger with fries in the diner.

When we arrived in Oslo we went on a geocaching tour. The ship docks about 30 minutes walking distance away from the city center. In the three and a half hours we only had we walked to the city center of course with a big detour and back. Unfortunately we were to slow on the way back so for the rest of the way we had to take a taxi. We made it just on time.

We were lucky with the weather. We spent some time on the sun deck while going through the beautiful fjord scenery. We did card games and that was about it. On our way back we had dinner at the pizzeria.
After breakfast we were back in Kiel and soon back home. It was a very nice tour I can really recommend it.

Dieses Mal war es eine Familien-Kreuzfahrt mit Eltern, Tante und Onkel.

MSC Magnifica 22. Mai - 02. Juni 2018

Das 294 m lange und 32 m breite Schiff wurde im März 2010 getauft. 1.038 Crew-Mitglieder kümmern sich um maximal 2.518 Passagiere. Also mehr als halb so viel wie auf der Meraviglia. Das Schiff hat 13 Passagier-Decks. Es gibt ein Indoor-Pool und vier Whirlpools. Das Schiff hat fünf Dinner-Lokale und 12 Bars und Lounges.

Hamburg

Tag 1: Hamburg Abfahrt 21 h

Die 12-tägige Reise beginnt in Hamburg am Kreuzfahrt-Terminal Altona. Von mir Zuhause mit Bahn und Hafenfähre kamen wir direkt am Schiff an, genau passend um am Anleger ein Haufen meiner Kollegen zu begegnen, die gerade von der Schiffsbesichtigung kamen. Irgendwie fühlte ich mich da super, das meine Kollegen nun zur Arbeit müssen und ich eine Kreuzfahrt mache.  :-)

Meine Familie lies mir freie Hand bei der Planung der Landgänge, was mich natürlich nicht stört, im Gegenteil. Ein Kollege hat mir auch noch einige hilfreiche Tipps gegeben.
Southampton selber soll nicht so schön sein, als wir dann um Geld zu tauschen in die winzige Altstadt (etwa 15 – 20 Minuten Fußweg) sind, wusste ich auch warum. Bis wir endlich englische Pfund in den Händen hielten hat es ein wenig gedauert.
Wir sind dann mit der Schnellfähre in einer knappen halben Stunde auf die Insel „Isle of Wright“.

Auf der Insel gibt es gute Busverbindungen. Zunächst nach einem Spaziergang in dem süßem Ort Cowes ging es zum Knotenpunkt Newport und dann zum westlichsten Punkt. Das Wetter war – naja, so wie man sich England vorstellt. :-)
Mit besserer Planung hätte man auch noch den Osten der Insel besichtigen können. Wer also jemals nach Southampton kommt, fahrt auf die Insel.


Tag 4: Le Havre, Frankreich 7 – 20 h

Für Le Havre haben wir ein Auto gemietet, auch hier hat es lange lange gedauert bis wir einen fahrbaren Untersatz hatten. Wir sind zu Fuß ne knappe Stunde durch die etwas trostlosere Ecke gelaufen. Die Adresse des Vermieters war veraltet; wir wurden dann abgeholt. Das Wetter war wenigstens ok. Erster Halt war der bezaubernde Ort Honfleur (etwa 8.000 Einwohner). Wir sind durch die Hafenstadt, quer durch die Altstadt, durch den Park zum Strand und haben an jeder Ecke ein wenig Geocaching gemacht. Es wurde dann auch sonnig und warm.

Zweiter Stop war Étretat (etwa 1.400 Einwohner); bekannt ist der Ort vor allem durch die steilen Felsklippen mit ihren außergewöhnlichen Felsformationen, die den Ort auf beiden Seiten umrahmen. Wetter war hier diesig aber noch recht warm.

Das Schiff hielt direkt am Rande der Stadt. Wir haben einen ausgiebigen Spaziergang gemacht am Strand entlang bis zum Ende der Stadt durch eine hügelige Parklandschaft zum Herkulesturm und wieder zurück durch die Altstadt, ein schönes Städtchen.

Tag 7: Bilbao, Spanien 9 – 18 h

Der Terminal ist in Getxo an der Küste. Bilbao liegt im Inland am Fluss etwa 35 Minuten mit der Bahn entfernt. Vom Schiff zum nächsten Bahnhof sind wir etwa in 20 Minuten durch den Regen gelaufen. Die Stadt ist bekannt für das Guggenheim Museum und der ältesten Schwebefähre der Welt. Bilbao hat mir gefallen. Wir waren ein wenig shoppen und sind viel gelaufen.


Tag 8: Le Verdon-sur-Mer, Frankreich 8 – 17 h

In dem Ort gibt es nicht viel und am Hafen noch weniger; hier halten sonst nur Containerschiffe. Das Schiff lag etwa 30 Minuten Fußweg entfernt, daher haben wir uns entschieden den MSC-Shuttle zum nächsten Ort „Soulac-sur-Mer“ (2.600 Einwohner) zu nehmen, um uns die Zeit zu vertreiben, denn wir haben ja einige Seetage auf der Reise. Die Fahrt dauert etwa 15 Minuten. Wir dachten, es wäre ein kleiner unspannender Ort, wurden aber eines besseren belehrt. Es war ein hübscher Ort mit unglaublich vielen netten Geschäften mit Strand. Wir haben hier doch einige Zeit mit Shoppen verbracht.

Amsterdam ist mit dem 25 km langem Nordseekanal mit der Nordsee verbunden. Hier fuhren wir durch und mussten auch eine Schleuse passieren. Wir alle waren vor nicht allzu langer Zeit in Amsterdam.
Vorab hatte ich mir schon rausgesucht, dass ich gerne einmal ne Runde Schwarzlicht-Minigolf spielen möchte, war auch gleich in der Nähe der Anlegestellen. Es hat eh geregnet und passenderweise nach der Partie aufgehört. Das Schiff lag in Fußweg zur Innenstadt. Wir haben dann die typische Grachtenfahrt gemacht und dann noch noch einen Stadtbummel. Wir hatten auch nur den Nachmittag; wollten ja zum Essen zurück sein und wir kennen Amsterdam ja auch schon ein wenig.

Im schönsten Hamburger Schietwetter waren wir dann wieder zurück.

Wie bei jeder Kreuzfahrt versuche ich fast täglich das Fitnessstudio zu besuchen und einmal überall gewesen zu sein. Ich hatte während der Fahrt Geburtstag und habe ein Casino-Gutschein bekommen, hierfür habe ich das erste Mal in meinem Leben Roulette gespielt und als ich dann auch öfters gewann hat es richtig Spaß gebracht. Immer wenn es irgendetwas umsonst gab bin ich ja dabei. Es gab z. B. 5 € gratis für die Spielautomaten, da haben wir auch immer wieder gewinnen können. Bei einer Tombola habe ich Bingokarten gewonnen, leider aber kein Glück dabei. Beim Münzschieber hatten wir auch viel Spaß. Wir haben auch die meisten Theater-Shows angesehen. Habe auch mein Glück bei verschieden Quiz versucht; bei diversen Spielen war ich besser und hab ein paar Kleinigkeiten gewonnen, konnte auch meine Familie teilweise dazu überreden.
Das Essen haben wir meist im Buffetrestaurant eingenommen, ein paar mal auch A la carte. Das Personal war überaus freundlich, hatten auch unsere zwei Lieblingskellnerinnen. Die Abende endeten meistens in der Disse. Die Reise war super, auch wenn das Wetter häufig nicht auf unserer Seite war.

The 12 night journey began in Hamburg-Altona not far away from my home. We took the train and a harbour ferry. At the landing stage I met several of my co-workers who came back from a ship visit. Felt great telling them have fun back at work and I will go on a cruise.

My family gave me planty of rope for planing the shore leaves. Which I did not mind at all quite the contrary. A colleague of mine gave me useful tips. Southampton is suppose to be not that nice which I agree. When we went into the tiny old town (about 15 to 20 min walk) to change money there was not much to see there. It took us a while until we had some English Pounds. We arrived on the „Isle of Wright“ in about half an hour by fast ferry.

On the island there is a quite good bus connection. After a walk in the pretty town of Cowes we took the bus to the capital Newport and after that to the most westerly point of the island.
The weather was – well – as you imagine in England. With a better planing it is possible to see also the other part of the Isle of Wright.
If you ever go to Southampton take a trip to the island. It is worth it.

Day 4 - Le Havre, France 7 am – 8 pm

There are two nice spots a bit away from Le Havre so I rented a car. I Le Havre we walked for about an hour through a dismal area to the address of the car company. Because I had an old address, we did not find it. At the end we got picked up. First we drove to the pretty town of Honfleur (8,000 inhabitans). We strolled through the port town cross the old town to the park and beach. We did some geocaching as well. The weather became sunny and warm.

Second stop was Étretat (1,400 inhabitans); famous for the steeply cliffs which are framed on both sides with extraordinary rock formation. There we had misty weather but still quite warm.

The cruise terminal is right in town. We did a long walk along the beach to the other side of town through the hilly landscape to the Tower of Hercules and back shopping through the old town. Quite a nice place.

The cruise terminal is located in the town of Getxo. Bilbao is about 35 minutes by train inland. From the port we walked through the rain to the train station. It took us 20 minutes. The city is well known for the Guggenheim Museum and the oldest transporters bridge. I liked Bilbao. Again we did some shopping and walked a lot; the usual stuff.

Day 8 Le Verdon-sur-Mer, France 8 am – 5 pm

There is not much in the village and even less at the port which is actually just a container port. The ship was about 30 minutes walking distance to Verdon-sur-Mer. We booked a shuttle bus to the next town of Soulac-sur-Mer (2,600 inhabitans) to kill some time. In 15 minutes we were there. We thought it is a small uninteresting village but we were surprised.  Soulac-sur-Mer is a pretty place with lots of shops and a beach. Again we bought a few things.

Amsterdam is connected to the North Sea via the 25 k long North Sea Canal. We passed through a huge lock. We all have been in Amsterdam, some of us just recently.
At home I found black light miniture golf which I was very keen to play. It was very close to the port. It rained anyway and stopped thankfully after the match. The ship was in walking distance to the center. We did the typical canal cruise and a city stroll. We only had the afternoon as we wanted be back for diner and we all know the city a bit.

In the beautiful Hamburg weather – rain – we arrived.

Like on every cruise I try to visit the fitness center most of the days and be at least once on every corner of the ship. It was my birthday during the journey. I got a voucher for the casino. I played Roulette for the very first time and after I started to win a few times it was so much fun. I am always there where you get something for free. We got a 5 € voucher for the slot machines and I won Bingo cards with a tombola; no luck with that though. We love the coin pusher as well.
We visit several theater shows and we tried different quizzes. We also played some small games and won a few things. I even convinced my family to play.
We ate mostly in the buffet restaurant. The staff was outstanding friendly. We had our two favorite waitresses. Our days ended usually in the discotheque. The trip was fantastic, although the weather was not always on our side.
