Back in England - again

Und noch einmal wieder zurück nach England

Nach Schottland bin ich dann wieder durch England um nach Irland zu fliegen. Nach der Grenze habe ich mal wieder mir eine Burg angesehen; das ist die erste von innen in England. Erster Stop also auf „Holy Island“; wurde mir empfohlen. Die kleine Insel ist nur während Ebbe zu erreichen, da sonst die Strasse überflutet ist. Ich war genau zum richtigen Zeitpunkt da. Die Insel hat um die 160 Einwohner. Das Schloß „Lindisfarne Castle“, was eigentlich mal eine Festung war, war sehr interessant und sehr gut besucht; soviele Touristen auf einen Haufen mitten im Nirgendwo habe ich schon lange nicht mehr gesehen. Für die Übernachtung habe ich mir mal wieder Couchsurfer gesucht mitten in dem kleinen Ort „Thornton-Le-Moor“ in North Yorkshire wo es nicht viel zu sehen gibt. Ich habe mich nett mit der Familie unterhalten und wir haben Reisetipps ausgetauscht. Ich habe auch typisch englisches, hausgemachtes Essen bekommen.

Manchester

Für meinen nächsten Halt wollte ich mir mal ein wenig Luxus gönnen und in einem Hotel übernachten. Ich hatte somit meine Ruhe und wollte auf jeden Fall eine Badewanne. Nach ewigem Suchen fand ich eines in Manchester, hatte gar nicht vor dort zu halten. Ich habe dann noch einen Stop im Museum eingelegt und dann im Hotel „Chester Hotel & Restaurant“ (£ 34,50 / € 44) den Abend vor dem Fernseher und in der Badewanne verbracht.

Danach bin ich durch den „Peak District National Park“ gefahren mit ein paar kurzen Stops; landschaftlich war es wunderschön. Für das Ende meiner Großbritannien Tour bin ich dann nach Coventry gefahren. Viele sagen, da gibst nichts zu sehen und ist häßlich. Da konnte ich aber gar nicht zustimmen, mir hat´s gefallen. Ich bin auch nur dahingefahren weil Amy da wohnt, ich kenne Sie aus Kanada aus Edmonton. Ich habe bei ihr übernachtet und wie praktisch, der Abend wo ich ankam war Halloween. Wir sind zu sowas wie eine Privatparty mit Live-Band. War sehr nett. Am nächsten Tag haben wir gemeinsam Coventry angeschaut. Am Nachmittag habe ich dann alleine nette Museen erkundet. Ich bin drei Nächte geblieben. Am zweiten Tag sind wir dann gemeinsam zu einem Labyrinth-Park gefahren. Das klang für uns beide klasse und das war es auch, auf dem Rückweg noch den Ort Warwick erkunden und ein bißchen Geocaching gemeinsam gemacht. Das waren spaßige Tage mit Amy.

Peak District

Die letzte Nacht in England wollte ich irgendwo nicht allzu weit des Flughafens wohnen. Es waren viele Hostels ausgebucht oder geschlossen. Ich bin dann wieder nach Brighton gefahren, wo ich meine zweite Nacht verbracht habe. Von hier aus waren es etwa 30 Minuten zum Flughafen und ich konnte nochmal Lauren besuchen, die Kanadierin, die hier zur Zeit wohnt. Wir sind nett essen und was Trinken gegangen. Es kam mir vor als hätte ich sie gerade erst verabschiedet obwohl zwischen meinen Besuchen vier Wochen lagen. Übernachtet habe ich in einem ok Hostel (Smart Sea View Brighton £ 9,90 / € 13) , wo nicht viel mit Bettruhe war; die Zimmer waren groß und viele sind nachts gekommen und gegangen. Für eine Nacht geht ja aber alles. Am nächsten Tag bin ich zum Flughafen London-Gatwick und auf ging es zu einem Land wo ich noch nie vorher gewesen war. In England war ich bereits 2 Mal, einmal vor 20 Jahren auf Klassenreise und 2009 als ich aus Asien wiederkam.

Mein Fazit von England: Das Land ist abwechslunsgreich; es gibt wunderschöne Ecken und es läßt sich gut reisen. Die Menschen sind nett und hilfsbereit. Nach Kanada war ich erstaunt wie günstig hier alles ist. Mir hat´s hier sehr gut gefallen.

After Scotland I had to come back through England to fly to Ireland. After I reached England I went to Holy Island to see my first English castle from the inside. The tiny Island is located just off the border of Scotland on the east coast. It has only a population of about 160 people and you can only reach it by car at low tide. At high tide the causeway is flooded. I arrived at a perfect time to cross over. This place was recommended to me and it is a beautiful spot. “Lindisfarne Castle” actually used to be a fortress. It was well visited and an interesting castle. For the night I stayed in a little town called „Thornton-le-Moor“ in North Yorkshire with a couchsurfing family. We had a good conversation and we exchanged travel tips. They also made a typical homemade English dinner.

For the following night I wanted some luxury so I booked a hotel. I wanted to be on my own and have a relaxing bath in my very own bath tube. After a long research at the internet I found the “Chesters Hotel & Restaurant” (£ 34.50 / € 44) in Manchester. I didn´t planned to go to Manchester but while I was there I visited the museum and had a quick look in downtown.

After a relaxing night I drove through the “Peak District National Park” which is so beautiful. I did a few short stops and for the end of my England Tour I stayed in Coventry. I heard from some people why I am stopping there. It is meant to be boring and ugly but when I arrived I just couldn´t agree. I like it. I went there just because Amy lives here. I met her in Edmonton in Canada. I stayed three nights with her. I was there at a perfect time because I arrived at the Halloween night. We went to a kinda private party with a live band. It was a nice evening. The next day we explored Coventry. In the afternoon I visited alone some good museums and galleries. The following day we went together to a maze park. We both enjoyed it very much. On our way back we stopped in the small town of Warwick and did a bit of geocaching. These were fun days with Amy.

Coventry

For my last night in England I wanted to stay not too far from the airport. Several hostels were already closed for the season or booked out. At the end I drove to Brighton again. This time I stayed in a different hostel. I stayed here at my second night when I arrived in England. It is only about 30 minutes to the airport. I also was able to meet Lauren the Canadian girl again. We went out for dinner and a drink. It seemed like that I just saw her but it was four weeks ago. I stayed at a ok hostel (Smart Sea View Brighton £ 9,90 / € 13). There was not much of a good sleep as the room was big and all the time people came in and out. I didn´t mind it for the one night at all. The next day I flew out from London-Gatwick off to a country I have never visited before. This is the third time I have been to Great Britain precisely England; one time 20 years ago with school and then 2009 after my Asia trip.

My opinion about England: The country is diversified; there are fair and beautiful regions and it is easy to travel around. The people are helpful and friendly. After Canada I was surprised how cheap it is. I really enjoyed this trip.
