Die Schulung

Mit dem Zug ging es in das kleine Dorf Saalbach-Hinterglemm im Bundesand Salzburg, hier begann mein neuer Job bei Frosch Sportreisen als Service-Leitung. Ich war dort zur einwöchigen Schulung, um alles zu lernen, was man für den Job wissen muß.

I went by train to the small village of Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Here I started my new job at Frosch Sportreisen as a service manager. I was there for the job training for one week to learn everything what you need to know about the job.

Neuer Job in Österreich

Mein neuer Arbeitgeber ist Frosch Sportreisen. Das ist ein Reiseveranstalter, wo Gäste gleich diverse sportliche Aktivitäten mitbuchen können. Im Sommer auf jeden Fall Wandern und Mountainbiking und weiteres und im Winter hauptsächlich Skifahren. Im Sommer habe ich die sogenannten Frösche ja bereits auf Lesbos. Ich bin dort mit den Reiseleitern und Gästen einige Male wandern gewesen.

Nun hatte ich schon immer Bock, mal im Skigebiet zu arbeiten, das hat ja in Neuseeland schon nicht geklappt. Klang alles nach einem super Job.

My new employers are “Frosch Sportreisen”. This is a tour operator where you not only book the room also sport is included in the price. In the summer it is definitely hiking and mountain biking and also others depends on the destination. In winter it is mostly skiing. I already know Frosch from the summer when I went hiking with them in Greece.

I pretty much always wanted to work in the ski area. I tried it in new Zealand but it did not work out. This job sounded like a great one.

Eine Tour mit dem Jeep

So, der vollständigkeitshalber hier noch die letzten Fotos aus Griechenland. Ich habe mir einen Jeep geliehen und bin mit meiner tschechischen Kollegin und ihrem Freund auf den holperigen Wegen gefahren. Waren ein paar super Stunden und endlich durfte ich wieder Off Road fahren.

Well, for the sake of completeness here are the last pictures from Greece. I rented a four wheel drive and went with my colleague from the Czech Republic and her boyfriend. We drove off road for a few hours. Was a great day.

Chíos

Die Nachbarinsel Chíos ist die fünftgrößte Insel Griechenlands hinter Rhodos. Sie liegt etwa 0000 km südlich von Lésbos. Dort landen keine Chartermaschinen, so dass die Gäste, wenn sie nicht aus Athen kommen auf Lésbos landen und dann mit der Fähre weiterfahren. Diese Gäste setze ich nur ins Taxi. Einige von Ihnen verbringen auch einen Teil ihres Urlaubs auf Lésbos. Auf Chíos arbeitet meine Kollegin Ester für ATTIKA, sie ist Holländerin und lebt nun auf der Insel.

Ende August habe ich es endlich geschafft und wir beide hatten Zeit, so dass ich sie besuchen konnte. Es wird auch gewünscht, dass wir die Nachbarinseln kennen und ich war froh eine weitere Insel besichtigen zu können. Einige meiner Gäste, die beide Inseln kennen, sagten mir stets, dass Ihnen Chíos besser gefallen hatte, daher war ich sehr gespannt. Leider sollte man ja seine Gäste nicht allzu lang alleine lassen, daher waren mehr als zwei Nächte nicht drinnen.

Mit der Fähre von NEL Lines dauert die Überfahrt drei Stunden. Alle Decktickets und Sitzkarten waren ausgebucht, daher musste ich ein Ticket für eine nur geringfügig teurere Vierer-Kabine nehmen.

Vouno Village

Am späten Abend erreichte ich Chíos-Stadt oder Chora (wie die Hauptstadt genannt wird). Als wir ins Hafenbecken einliefen, fiel mir gleich die Ähnlichkeit zu Mytilíni auf; sogar die gleichen Geschäfte waren da. Das Hafenbecken war viel größer und die Stadt wirkte, obwohl sie viel kleiner war, doch größer als die Hauptstadt auf Lésbos.

Ester hat mir einige Hotels gezeigt, wir haben dort auch das Frühstücksbüfett ausprobiert. Ich habe die Landschaft ein wenig bewundern können, einige Strände gesehen, Dörfer besucht und auch ein verlassenes Dorf. Wir hatten leider nur Zeit für den Süden. Ich hatte zwar nur einen kurzen Einblick, aber ich denke Lésbos ist etwas vielseitiger; ja auch größer. Perfekt wären eine Woche Chíos und zwei Wochen Lésbos. Auf jeden Fall eine sehr schöne Insel mit sehr interessanten Dörfern, die viel seitiger sind als auf Lésbos.

Kurz vor Saisonende hat mich Ester auch noch einmal besucht. Sie war letztes Jahr hier, hatte aber nicht viel gesehen.

Kambos

The neighboring island Chíos is the fifth largest island of Greece after Rhodes. It is located about 000 km south of Lésbos. There are no charter flights. If the guests do not come via Athens they have to land on Lésbos and keep going by ferry. This clients I only give them a taxi. Some of my clients spend a part of their holiday also on Lésbos. The ATTIKA rep on Chíos is my colleague Ester. She is from the Netherlands and lives there now.

End of August I made it. I finally visited her. It is wanted that we know about the neighboring islands and I was happy to be able to see another island. Some of my guests who know both destinations told me that they prefer Chíos that is why I was really looking forward. Unfortunately I cannot leave alone my guests for too long so I was not able to stay away for no more than two days.

The trip with the NEL Lines ferry takes about three hours. All deck and seat tickets were taken so I had to get a bed in a cabin for four which was not much more expensive.

Late at the evening I reached Chíos or Chora how the capital is known. When we arrived the harbor basin right away I realized that it reminded me totally of Mytilíni. Also they have the same shops. The harbor basin was much bigger. The city seems to be bigger as well although It I much smaller.

Ester showed me some hotels. We also tested the breakfast buffet. I admired the landscape, saw some beaches and visit a few villages and also an abandoned village. Unfortunately we did not have much time; we just drove through the south. I got a brief introduction but I think Lésbos is a bit more versatile. Well, it is bigger. Perfect would be one week on Chíos and two weeks on Lésbos. Definitely a beautiful island with very interesting villages which are more versatile than the ones on Lesbos

Auf jeden Fall eine sehr schöne Insel mit sehr interessanten Dörfern, die viel seitiger sind als auf Lésbos.

Lésbos ist nun nicht unbedingt als Partyinsel bekannt; es gibt eine Strand-Disko, die auch nur in der Hauptsaison auf hat und sich auch nur am Wochenende richtig füllt, und es gibt ein paar Bars.

Ich war bei einigen Geburtstagen der Reiseleiter und ab und an in der Disse, in einigen Bars, auf einem Sardinen-Fest oder wir haben uns abends irgendwo mit ner Flasche Wein entweder am Strand oder oben auf der Burg vergnügt.

Going out

Lésvos ist not really known as a party island. Mólyvos has one Beach Bar which is only open in the main season and only full on the weekends and a few bars.

I was at a few birthday parties from the other reps and every now and then in the discotheque or in the bars. We also been at a sardine festival or we just sad down on the beach or at the castle and had fun with a bottle of wine.

Wieder Besuch

Meine Wohnung mit ihren zwei Zimmern ist groß genug, und damit war es kein Problem, weitere Freunde einzuladen. Aus Bequemlichkeit und um meinen Rücken von der weichen Matratze eine Erholung zu bieten, schlaf ich eh schon seit Wochen auf der Couch und somit war mein Schlafzimmer unbewohnt.

Christian kam zusammen mit dem Flug, mit dem auch meine Gäste ankamen, an. Ich war mit dem Auto da, da der erste Weg uns natürlich zum LIDL führte, um einen Bier-Großeinkauf zu machen.

Wir haben Vaterá besucht, waren mit Adriana und ihren Freunden im Westen, schwammen an verschiedenen Stränden, waren essen, besuchten Bergdörfer, haben ein Kloster besucht und fanden uns nach dem Verfahren auf in den Hügeln mit einer wunderschönen Aussicht wieder.

Christian hat mich begleitet, wenn ich in den Süden, meine Gäste in den Hotels besucht habe oder hat gewartet bis ich wieder da bin. In dieser einen Woche habe ich auch wieder Orte gesehen, die ich noch nicht kannte. War ne nette Zeit.

Visit from another friend

My two bedroom apartment is big enough so there was no reason to have more friends over. I am sleeping on my sofa for weeks anyway to give my back a rest from the soft mattress of my bed so my bedroom was available. Christian came with the same flight than my clients. I picked him up with my car because our first stop had to be the German supermarket to restock our beer supplies.

We visited Vaterá, went west with Adriana and her friends, swam on different beaches, went out for dinners and lunches, checked out mountain villages, had a look at a monastery and had a beautiful view from the mountains where we went by accident.

Christian accompanied me when I went to visit my clients in the hotels or he waited until I was back. In this one week I saw places I have not seen before. We had an awesome time.
