Ausgehen

Lésbos ist nun nicht unbedingt als Partyinsel bekannt; es gibt eine Strand-Disko, die auch nur in der Hauptsaison auf hat und sich auch nur am Wochenende richtig füllt, und es gibt ein paar Bars.

Ich war bei einigen Geburtstagen der Reiseleiter und ab und an in der Disse, in einigen Bars, auf einem Sardinen-Fest oder wir haben uns abends irgendwo mit ner Flasche Wein entweder am Strand oder oben auf der Burg vergnügt.

Going out

Lésvos ist not really known as a party island. Mólyvos has one Beach Bar which is only open in the main season and only full on the weekends and a few bars.

I was at a few birthday parties from the other reps and every now and then in the discotheque or in the bars. We also been at a sardine festival or we just sad down on the beach or at the castle and had fun with a bottle of wine.

Wieder Besuch

Meine Wohnung mit ihren zwei Zimmern ist groß genug, und damit war es kein Problem, weitere Freunde einzuladen. Aus Bequemlichkeit und um meinen Rücken von der weichen Matratze eine Erholung zu bieten, schlaf ich eh schon seit Wochen auf der Couch und somit war mein Schlafzimmer unbewohnt.

Christian kam zusammen mit dem Flug, mit dem auch meine Gäste ankamen, an. Ich war mit dem Auto da, da der erste Weg uns natürlich zum LIDL führte, um einen Bier-Großeinkauf zu machen.

Wir haben Vaterá besucht, waren mit Adriana und ihren Freunden im Westen, schwammen an verschiedenen Stränden, waren essen, besuchten Bergdörfer, haben ein Kloster besucht und fanden uns nach dem Verfahren auf in den Hügeln mit einer wunderschönen Aussicht wieder.

Christian hat mich begleitet, wenn ich in den Süden, meine Gäste in den Hotels besucht habe oder hat gewartet bis ich wieder da bin. In dieser einen Woche habe ich auch wieder Orte gesehen, die ich noch nicht kannte. War ne nette Zeit.

Visit from another friend

My two bedroom apartment is big enough so there was no reason to have more friends over. I am sleeping on my sofa for weeks anyway to give my back a rest from the soft mattress of my bed so my bedroom was available. Christian came with the same flight than my clients. I picked him up with my car because our first stop had to be the German supermarket to restock our beer supplies.

We visited Vaterá, went west with Adriana and her friends, swam on different beaches, went out for dinners and lunches, checked out mountain villages, had a look at a monastery and had a beautiful view from the mountains where we went by accident.

Christian accompanied me when I went to visit my clients in the hotels or he waited until I was back. In this one week I saw places I have not seen before. We had an awesome time.

Zwischen den Flügen am Flughafentag, den ich, wenn ich mit dem Auto dort bin, eigentlich immer am Strand verbringe, bin ich diesmal in die Hauptstadt zu einem Kulturtag. Nachdem ich gehört habe, dass die Museum kurzfristig wieder geöffnet habe, musste ich diese doch auch mal sehen.

Ich bin also erst in die Stadt zum Neuen und Alten Archäologischem Museum, dann durch die Einkaufsstraße marschiert und anschließend in die Ausstellung des berühmten griechischen Malers Theofilos.

One day in Mytilíni

At the airport day where I usually go to the beach between the two flights I spent a day in the capital. I heard that the museums suddenly opened.

First I went to the New and the Old Archeological Museums and then I did a stroll through the traditional shopping street. I also visit the gallery of the famous Greek painter Theofilos.

Feuer

Mitte Juli brach in Pétra ein Feuer aus. Melanie und ich konnten es von unserem Balkon beobachten. Es war nicht das erste in diesem Jahr; von Adrianas Balkon sahen wir das erste, was aber etwas kleiner war.

Dies hier war das größte seit langer Zeit. Jedes Jahr brechen kleine und große Feuer aus, meist Brandstiftung. Seit etwa vier Jahren werden Brände von irgendjemand mit Absicht gelegt und bisher wurde die Person nicht erwischt.

Das Feuer ging bis in die Nacht, es waren drei Löschflugzeuge unterwegs sowie ein Löschhelikopter. Zwei Flugzeuge mussten zum Wasser auffüllen wieder zum Flughafen nach Mytilíni, die andern füllten ihre Tanks direkt vor Ort in der Bucht.

Es hat seit Wochen nicht geregnet und die Insel ist sehr groß und dadurch sind die Feuerwehren auf der Insel verteilt und es dauert bis sie kommen.

Nur wenige Tage später war ein weiteres Feuer bei Mólyvos, bei weitem aber nicht so groß. Es gab noch weitere im Laufe der nächsten Wochen. Hoffe das der Schuldige bald gefasst wird, am besten von den Einheimischen, denn die sind die ersten, wenn sie ein Feuer sehen, die zum Ort des Geschehens rasen, um die Person ausfindig zu machen.

Fire

Mid of July there was a big fire near Pétra. Melanie and I we were able to see it from my balcony. It was not the first one this year. I could see the first one from Adriana’s balcony. This was far smaller than this one.

Almost the whole hillside burned down

This was the biggest since a long time. Every year there are many small and big fires in different places mostly around Mólyvos and Pétra. Since four years fires were started by arsonists and until now nobody knows who it is.

The fire was on till the night. There were three airplanes and one helicopter. Two planes had to go every time back to the airport in Mytilíni to fill up the tanks. The others did it right here on the coast.

There was not any rain for some weeks and the island is so big it takes some time till the fire brigade is here.

Just a few days later there was another fire near Mólyvos but fortunately not as big as the last one. There were more in the next weeks too. I hope somebody will catch that person. Every time there is a fire you see the people who live here rushing to this place and try to find that person who is responsible.

Griechische Nacht in Pétra

Die griechische Nacht kann man wohl in jeder Urlaubsdestination in Griechenland findet. Eine typische Veranstaltung, die von den Deutschen eher gemieden wird. Wir sind doch dann doch mehr Individualisten und nicht so für Gruppenveranstaltungen zu haben. Dafür aber sehr beliebt bei den Osteuropäern oder auch den Engländern, die viel in Gruppen unternehmen.

Bei der griechischen Nacht gibt es Abendessen, meist „all you can eat“, Wein und es werden traditionelle Tänze gezeigt, bei denen man auch mitmacht.

Meine tschechische Kollegin Adriana hat mich also mitgenommen. Ich saß an einem komplett tschechischen Tisch, aber wie ich auch schon in anderen Ländern gemerkt habe, kann sich ja auch mit nur wenigen Wörter und Gestik trotzdem unterhalten.

Das Essen war super, der Wein lecker und die Tänze interessant. Als Reiseleiter kann man sich auch nicht zieren, wenn man aufgefordert wird.

Die Taverne “The Traditional” liegt in einer Nebenstraße und die Tische standen auch auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite. Es wurde also mitten auf der Straße getanzt. Wenn ein Auto kam, wartete es geduldig bis der Tanz vorbei war und es passieren konnte.

Ein sehr schöner Abend bzw. auch Nacht.

Greek Night in Pétra

The Greek Night you will find probably in every tourist destination all over Greece. It is typical event which is mostly avoided by the Germans. We are more individuals and do not like group events so much. Different are the East Europeans and also the English people, they like those things more than us.

At the Greek Night you will get dinner, mostly all you can eat, wine and you will see traditional dances where you will be included.

My Czech colleague Adriana took me with her. I was sitting at table with only Czech people but as I know from other countries I visited it is possible to have kind of a conversation just with a few words and some gestures. The food was yammy, the wine great and the dances very interesting. When you are a rep there is hardly a chance that you can say no if somebody ask you to dance.

The taverna “The Traditional” is located in a secondary road and the tables are also on the other side of the street. So the dances takes place in the middle of the street and whenever a car came it waited till the dance was over so he can drive through.

It was a very nice evening and night.

Ich bekomme Besuch

Molyvos

Ende Juni bekam ich Besuch von Melanie. Sie blieb knappe drei Wochen. Mit ihr habe ich viele Dinge gesehen, die ich noch nicht kannte. Wir waren fast überall auf der Insel unterwegs. Orte gemeinsam anzuschauen bringt dann doch einfach mehr Spaß. Sie hat mich bei meiner Arbeit begleitet. Meist habe ich sie am Strand abgesetzt und bin dann in die Hotels. Leider kommt immer extra Arbeit auf einen zu, wenn man das am wenigsten möchte, wie z. B. Beschwerden und Probleme wie Streiks. Wir hatten aber trotzdem viel mehr Zeit als manch andere, die man bei der Arbeit besucht. Schön, dass du da warst, Melanie!

Visit from a friend

End of June I got a visitor. Melanie stayed for almost three weeks. I have seen places with her I have not seen before. We were almost everywhere. To see things together is definitely more fun than do it by yourself. She accompanied me to work. Mostly I just dropped her off at the beach while I was visiting my clients in the hotels. Unfortunately there seems to be always extra work when you really want to spent some time with a friend, for example complaints and problems like strikes. We still had an awesome time and we probably had more time together then you would usually have when you visit someone at their workplace. Great that you were here, Melanie!

Spaziergang durch Mólyvos

Ein neuer Ausflug diese Jahr ist ein Spaziergang durch Mólyvos. Elsa, die auch den Ausflug in den Westen macht, führt die Gäste gekleidet in einem altertümlichen Kleid durch den Ort.
Die Burg wird besucht, man geht in eine Kirche, dann die engen Gassen rauf und runter, trifft vielleicht mal Bewohner mit denen man sich unterhält, besucht die alte Moschee, ein türkisches Herrenhaus, macht eine Kaffeepause und wird auf interessante Dinge hingewiesen, an denen man ansonsten unbemerkt vorbeilaufen wird.
So sieht man Mólyvos auch von einer anderen Seite; es war sehr interessant.

Walking tour through the secrets of Mólyvos

A new excursion this year is thye walking tour in Mólyvos. Elsa who is also doing the Wild West excursion walks the clients through the town dressed in an nice old fashion dress.
You will visit the castle, see one of the churches from the inside, walk through the small alleys and maybe you meet some habitants to talk to. You go inside of the old mosque and a former Turkish mansion. You do a coffee break and you will shown things you would usually pass by without noticing.
You will see Mólyvos from a different angle. Very interesting.

The South

Der Süden

An der Südküste habe ich vier weitere Hotels, je zwei an der östlichen Küste (Plomári) und zwei an der westlichen (Vaterá). Die meisten Gäste habe ich aber in Vaterá, sprich da fahre ich fast jede Woche hin. Die kleine Streusiedlung liegt 58 km von Mólyvos und dauert etwa 1,5 Stunden. Hier findet man den längsten Strand der Insel, knapp 10 km lang. Wir sind der einzige Veranstalter dort; nur im Juli und August wird es etwas voller; vor allen Dingen am Wochenende. Die meisten kommen hier her, um Badeurlaub zu machen.

Auf dem Weg zum Westen kommt man durch nur wenige Ort hindurch, unter anderem Polichnítos, wo die heißen Quellen und wo ich ab und an mal einen Stopp einlege. Es gibt in der Ecke einige traditionelle Dörfer und ein paar Strände am Golf von Kalloní.

Im östlichen Teil liegt der zweitgrößte Ort der Insel, Plomári, einige Veranstalter haben auch hier Hotels bzw. im kleinerem Vorort Ágios Isídoros, wo auch ich ein Hotel und ein Haus mit Apartments habe. Hier habe ich nur wenige Gäste.
Plomári ist bekannt für seinen Ouzo. Es gibt hier vier Distillerien von über 25 auf der ganzen Insel.

The South

On the south coast I have four hotels. Two in the east (Plomári) and two in the west (Vaterá). Most of the clients I have in Vaterá. That means I have to drive there pretty much every week once. The small village along the shore is located 58 km away from Mólyvos and it takes me almost 1.5 hours to go there. Here you will find the longest beach on the island – about 10 km long. We are the only tour operator at all in this area. Only in July and August there is a bit of something going on when the Greeks are going there for their holiday; mostly on the weekends. The biggest amount of people come here to do just a beach holiday.

On the way to Vaterá you pass Polichnítos. Here there is one of the five thermal hot springs. Once in a while I stopp here. You find some traditional villages here and also beaches on the Gulf of Kalloní.

On the east part of the south there is the second largest town of Lésbos – Plomári. Some tour operators have hotels here too or rather in the small village next door Ágios Isídoros. I have got one hotel and one apartments here.
Plomári is known for its Ouzo. There are four distilleries of about 25 all together on this island.
