Ausflug Wilder Westen – englische Tour

Den ersten Ausflug, den ich gemacht habe war der Ausflug, der sich nennt „Wilder Westen“. Da ich die einzige Deutsche bin im Büro hatte ich zunächst die Chance die Tour der Engländer und Holländer mitzumachen.
Die Tour mit dem Bus geht zunächst in Richtung Süden zur Inselmitte nach Kalloní (etwa 30 Minuten Fahrt), um dort weitere Gäste einzusammeln.
Wir haben zunächst das größte Mönchskloster „Moní Limónos“ besucht und danach zur Kaffeepause in das Bergdorf „Vatoússa“. Auch hier sind die Häuser traditionell aus Stein mit roten Dächern gebaut, wie auch in Mólyvos.
Zum wichtigsten Naturereignis der Insel fuhren wir in Anschluss; zum „Versteinertem Wald“. Dieser ist einmalig in Europa und gibt es nur noch einmal in der Form in Arizona in den USA. Vor etwa 20 Millionen Jahren ist dieses riesige Gebiet bei einem Vulkanausbruch ganz im Westen mit heißer Asche überdeckt worden und so wurden die Bäume versteinert.
Weiter fuhren wir an die Südküste an einen der schönsten Strände der Insel nach Skála Eressoú. Normalerweise macht man hier eine Badepause aber Anfang Mai ist es doch noch viel zu kalt dafür. Wir haben zu Mittag gegessen und sind dann über die Südroute durch die kleinen Dörfer wieder zurück.
Ein super Ausflug bei dem man so viel erfährt, was man sonst nie mitbekommen hätte.

Excursion: Wild West – English tour

The first excursion I did was the „Wild West“.  I am the only German in the office so there are just English excursions. I did the tour with the Dutch and the English.
With the bus we went south for 30 minutes to pick up other guests in Kalloní in the centre of Lésvos.
First we visited the biggest monastery on Lésvos “Moní Limónos” after that we did a coffee break in the traditional mountain village Vatoússa.
The most important natural site on this island was our next stop the ‘Petrified Forest’. It is unique in Europe. There is only something similar in Arizona.
About 20 million years ago this huge area in the far west was covered in hot ashes from a volcanic eruption. This is how the trees got petrified.
Further south we visited the coastal town Skala Erressoú. It is meant to be one of the most beautiful beaches on Lésvos. Usually here would be a lunch and swimming break but the water was still to cool for swimming in this time of the years so we just ate lunch.
We took the south route back through some small villages.
