New Brunswick - part 1

New Brunswick (engl.) oder Nouveau-Brunswick (franz.) oder Neubraunschweig (dt.) ist die einzige offiziell zweisprachige Provinz. Die Hauptstadt ist Fredericton (47.000 Einwohner), die größte Stadt ist aber Saint John mit 70.000. Etwa 65 % der Bevölkerung sprechen Englisch, 35 % Französisch. Letztere Bevölkerungsgruppe nennt sich Akadier, nach der Bezeichnung der Region (Akadien) aus der Kolonialzeit Frankreichs.

Von Quebec fuhr ich nach New Brunswick. Gleich bei der ersten Couchsurfing-Anfrage wurde ich von einer Frau eingeladen. Sie ist französischsprachig. Sie hat sogar für uns gekocht und hat mir die Stadt kurz gezeigt. Am nächsten Morgen bin ich dann weiter, die Stadt hatte nicht viel Interessantes zu bieten. Etwa in der Mitte der Provinz bin ich ohne Probleme dann rüber in die USA.

New Brunswick (French: Nouveau-Brunswick) is the only province in the Canadian federation that is constitutionally bilingual (English–French). Fredericton is the capital (population 47,000) but Saint John is the most populous city with a population of 70,000. The majority is English-speaking, but there is also a large Francophone minority (35%), chiefly of Acadian origin. The province is named for the city of Braunschweig, located in modern day Lower Saxony in northern Germany.

Grand Falls Gorge

After I left Quebec I drove into New Brunswick. I just did one random request on couchsurfing for the north and I got an invitation from a woman. She is French speaking and I learned a lot about the history of the Acadians from her. She drove me a bit around and even prepared some supper. There wasn´t much for me to see so I left and drove further south until I crossed over without any problems to the U.S. 

Die Hartland Brücke ist die weltlängste überdachte Brücke mit 391 m Länge. - - - 

The Hartland Bridge is the world's longest covered bridge (391 m or 1,283 ft).
