Zurück in Kanada

Da die kanadische Grenze nur 21 km von hier entfernt ist und Harma, eine Helperin aus Holland von dort aus weiterziehen wollte und wenn ich schon mal so nah bei bin, will ich auch mal kurz rüberschauen. Wir sind also morgens in der Früh mit unserer Hostin Tamsen losgefahren.

Man fährt zunächst für etwa 40-50 km durch die Provinz „British Columbia“ and danach nach „Yukon“.

Der nächste Ort „Haines Junction“ ist 241 Kilometer von hier entfernt; dort gibt es allerdings nichts zu sehen. Danach kommt „Whitehorse“ nach weiteren 158 Kilometer und insgesamt etwa 4 Stunden. Die Hauptstadt der Provinz Yukon hat etwa 26.000 Einwohner; etwa so viele wie in Juneau.

Viel zu sehen gibt es nicht, es war toll, mal rauszukommen, durch die Gegend zu fahren, eine andere Landschaft zu sehen und dann auch noch ein anderes Land. Die Landschaft hat sich unterwegs sehr verändert, die Berge waren weiter weg, es gab niedrigere Vegetation. Das Highlight aber war, daß wir einen Bären gesehen haben, kurz nachdem wir los sind. Besser aber noch auf dem Rückweg kurz bevor wir wieder in die Staaten gefahren sind, waren es dann gleich zweimal Zwei direkt an der Straße.

Back in Canada

Tamsen and Harma at the waterfall

The Canadian border is only 21 km (13 miles) away and Harma, the Dutch helper wanted to go there anyway. I also thought when I am so close to Canada I should go. We left in the early morning with our host Tamsen.

You drive first about 40 till 50 km (25 – 30 miles) through the province of „British Columbia“ and after that you enter „Yukon“.

The next town „Haines Junction” is located 241 kilometers away from here. There isn´t pretty much. It takes about four hours and 399 kilometers (248 miles) to arrive the capital of Yukon “Whitehorse”. It has a population of about 26,000; about the same as Juneau.

In Whitehorse is not much to see but it was really great to get out of the house, the town, the country. The scenery was changing quite a bit. The trees were gone, the mountains further away. The highlight was definitely to see a bear just after we crossed the border but this was nothing to see two times two bears right on the street on the way back just before we crossed the border again.
