Die größte Stadt in Alaska - Anchorage

Anchorage (englisch für Ankerplatz) hat etwa 290.000 Einwohner. Der Spitzname ist „The City of Lights and Flowers” (Die Stadt der Lichter und Blumen).

Es war ein wenig, als ich nach Juneau kam, nur schlimmer. Ich kam mit dem Bus vom Flughafen mitten in der Innenstadt am Hostel an und ich fragte mich nur „Wo ist die Innenstadt?“; nicht wirklich viele Hochhäuser und auch keine schönen, keine Shoppingstraße. Als ich abends etwas essen wollte, hatte irgendwie nichts mehr auf, noch nicht einmal ein Kiosk oder ähnliches gab es. Ich hab ein so etwas wie ein Supermarkt gesehen, der macht aber früh zu.

Ich wollte unbedingt die Innenstadt von Anchorage wenigstens gesehen haben, denn meine französischen Mitreisenden haben wenig Zeit und wollten am nächsten Morgen gleich weiter. Sie hatten einen späteren Flug und haben in der Nähe des Flughafens übernachtet.

Ich hatte eigentlich vor ein paar Wanderungen in und um Anchorage zu machen. Nachdem ich die Stadt gesehen hatte, dachte ich Wanderungen gibt es auch woanderswo.

Das Hostel (Bent Prop Inn) war teuer ($ 30 / € 22,60), aber gut mit freundlichen und hilfsbereiten Leuten und es ist in der Innenstadt.

Ich habe mir die Aufgabe gegeben nach Geschäften zu schauen, die Zelte verleihen, was ich dann auch gefunden habe.

Wir haben also am nächsten Morgen den Leihwagen vom Flughafen abgeholt, das Zelt eingepackt und ab ging die Reise gen Süden.

Anchorage has a population of about 290,000. The nickname is “The City of Lights and Flowers” and its motto is “Big Wild Life”. The City is named for the anchorage at the mouth of the Ship Creek.

Coming to Anchorage it was a bit like coming to Juneau just a bit worse. I arrived by bus from the airport in the middle of downtown at the hostel I´ve booked. I asked myself where is downtown? There are just a few not really nice looking skyscrapers. I couldn´t find a shopping street. When I wanted to eat something in the late evening, everything was closed, not even a little kiosk or something like it. I saw something like a supermarket but it closes early.

I really wanted to see downtown Anchorage just at least once. My French travel mates didn´t have much time. They wanted to leave the next morning. Their flight was later so they stayed near the airport.
Actually I planned to do some walks and hikes around the city but after I´ve seen the city I thought ...well, there are other walks somewhere else.

I gave myself the task to look for shops which rent tents. In fact I found one. So we picked up the rental car from airport the next morning and picked up the tent and drove off towards the South.
