Ankunft in Mytilíni - und nun?

Da war ich also am Flughafen in Mytilíni, wo die Autovermietung mit meinem Wagen auf mich warten sollte, ja denkste. Niemand wartete auch mich. Ich hing da wie ein verlorenes Huhn und keiner kannte die Autovermietung National Alamo. Einen wahrscheinlich schlechten Eindruck hinterließ ich dann wohl bei einem holländischen Reiseleiter, der mir sehr hilfsbereit sagte, dass der Typ da draußen von Billy’s Rentals mein Mann wäre. Und ja, er hatte recht, die meinten so nebenbei, ach ja, wir haben wir um 10 h gewartet (ich landete um 12 h) und niemand war da. Guter Start. Alles kein Problem nach endlos langer Zeit sind die Typen mit mir im Schlepptau in die etwa 8 km entfernte Hauptstadt und ich habe nach ewiger Zeit auch meinen kleinen, süßen, gelben Suzuki Alto bekommen.
Meine erste Frage war erstmal: Wo ist der LIDL? Antwort: Wenige Kilometer nördlich von hier. Also erstmal auf zum Shoppen und dann auf nach Mólyvos, ganz im Norden; 62,5 km und etwa 1,5 Stunden entfernt. Ich hatte eine Wegbeschreibung  zu einem meiner Hotels, wo ich für die nächsten Tage erstmal einquartiert bin bis ich eine eigene Wohnung finde.
Im Delfinia Hotel angekommen, hieß es auspacken und erstmal erkunden, wo ist mein Büro. Direkt an der Hauptstraße bei TUI Hellas habe ich einen Schreibtisch. ATTIKA sind die einzigen, die nicht zu TUI gehören; ansonsten sind da TUI Holland, First Choice und Thompson (England) und im Juni kommen noch Guilett (Österreich) und vtt (Tschechien).

Arrival in Mytilíni - and now?

I arrived at the airport and here the car rental was supposed to wait for me with my car but nobody was waiting. I was pretty lost because I did not a contact number and there was no office. A probably weird first impression one of the Dutch reps got from me but he was the one who pointed out the right person. That guys told me that he waited for me at 10 am (I arrived at 12 pm). Great start.
After a long while we drove to Mytilíni (about 8 km away) I got my yellow Suzuki Alto.
My first question was of course “where is LIDL?” the German Discounter. Answer: Just a few kilometres up north. After some food shopping I took the road to Mólyvos my new home town for a half year. I had a description how to get to the hotel where I stay for the beginning until I find a place to live. It is 62.5 km away and takes about 1.5 hours.
After arriving at Delfinia Hotel I went to my office which is directly at the main street. I have a desk at TUI HELLAS. ATTIKA is the only company who does not belong to TUI. There is also TUI Holland, First Choice and Thompson (England) and in June Guilett (Austria) und vtt (Czech Republic) will come.

Mithymna (Molyvos)

Trotz der offiziellen Bezeichnung mit dem antiken Namen Mithymna

Μήθυμνα) wird der seit dem Mittelalter gebräuchliche Name Molyvos (Μόλυβος) noch immer häufig benutzt.

Die Stadt ist an ist an der Nordküste der Insel Lesbos an einen Berg gebaut, auf dessen Gipfel sich eine mittelalterliche Burg befindet. Sie ist 62 km nordwestlich von Mytilini gelegen.
Die autofreie Stadt hat mit vielen kleinen Treppengassen, die den Berg hinaufführen, und überrankten Sträßchen mit zahlreichen Geschäften und Lokalen ein ursprüngliches, fast mittelalterlich anmutendes Aussehen.

Das Ortsbild ist noch deutlich von der Zeit der Türkenherrschaft geprägt. Zahlreiche in traditionell türkischer Bauweise errichtete Häuser aus dem 18. Jahrhundert sind erhalten. Westlich unterhalb der Stadt liegt ein kleiner natürlicher Hafen, der mit einer Mole versehen wurde und als Fischerhafen genutzt wird.

Mithymna (Molyvos)

Mithymna (Greek: Μήθυμνα) ist the official and antique name of the town, but it is still known also as Molyvos (Μόλυβος). The second most important town of the island is located about 62 km NW of Mytilene.
The town lies on the northern part of the island. One of the most noticeable features of the town is the old “Genoese fortress” on the hill in the middle of the town.

Wieder in Athen und wieder nix gesehen

Mein Flug von Hamburg mit Zwischenstopp in München nach Athen ging also am 14. April. Für eine Nacht musste ich nach Athen, wo unser zweites Büro ist (das andere ist in München). Hier habe ich die ersten Infos bekommen und die benötigten Unterlagen, wie Reiseleiterkoffer, Ankunftslisten, Handy, T-Shirts und die ersten mehr oder weniger hilfreichen Hinweise wie alles läuft.
Letztes Jahr war ich eine Woche in Athen zum Seminar und habe nix anderes gesehen als die Seminarräume, das Hotelzimmer und einige Tavernen und Bars.Ich hatte immerhin einen halben Tag Zeit zum nötigen Shoppen. Dieses Mal war ich ja nur einen Nachmittag dort. Nachdem ich alle Unterlagen bekommen hatte, habe ich mich mit Jasmin aus der Schweiz getroffen. Sie arbeitet auch seit letztem für ATTIKA. Ich habe Sie letztes Jahr im Seminar kennen gelernt und sie war auch gerade zufällig in Athen; also haben wir uns zum Abendessen getroffen.
Am nächsten Morgen wurde ich dann zum Flughafen gefahren. Mit der griechischen Aegean Air (ziemlich große Maschine) flog ich also nach Mytilini, der Hauptstadt von Lesbos.

Again in Athens and again I did not see anything

My flight from Hamburg with a stop in Munich to Athens was on 14 April. I stayed in Athens for one night. There is our second office (the other one is in Munich). From the office I got some stuff like a rep suitcase, transfer lists, my mobilphone, T-Shirts and and the first information how evertyhing works – helpful or not that is the question.
Last year I was in Athens for a week for the seminar. I did not see much more other than the seminar room, the hotel room and some tavernas and bars. At least I had a half day to do a bit of necessary shopping. This time I was there only for one afternoon. Just enough time to get all the stuff and to catch up with Jasmin from Switzerland. She also works for ATTIKA since last year. I met her at the seminar and the was in Athens at the same time. We went out for dinner.
At the next morning I was driven to the airport. With the Greek Aegean Air (they have big machines) to Mytiline, the capital from Lesvos.

Dies ist nun mein zweites Jahr, dass ich als Reiseleiterin für die Firma ATTIKA in Griechenland bin. Mir hat es letztes Jahr so gut gefallen, den Spaß wollte ich noch mal haben. Mal sehen wie es an einem anderen Ort ist. Genauso nett, freundliche Bewohner, super Kollegen, einfache Gäste, eine schöner Ort zum Verweilen, eine ordentliche Wohnung, einen guten fahrbaren Untersatz, spannende Arbeit? Wir werden sehen.

Alles ging so super schnell. Nachdem ich mal nachgefragt habe, wann es denn endlich losgeht, kam auch schnell - viel zu schnell – am 2. Februar kam die Antwort. Lesbos!!! Die Insel kannte ich schon vom Hörensagen und es ist auch eines der nächsten Inseln von Thassos, wenn auch gleich etwa 100 km entfernt. Ich wusste, es ist eine große Insel, bergig, teilweise karg, teilweise grün.
Nun heißt es noch schnell die geplante kleine Europatour machen. Jeweils 3 Tages-Trips ging es dann mit den Freunden in die Schweiz nach Genf, mit meiner Schwester zur Mecklenburger Seenplatte, mit meinem Vater in die Niederlande nach Amsterdam und mit meiner Mutter nach Dänemark nach Kopenhagen. Zwei Trips davon hab ich in den April reinquetschen müssen. Am 14. April ging es dann auch schon los nach Griechenland.

Summer job

This is also my second year that I work fort he German tour operator ATTIKA in Greece. Last year it was so great I wanted to have the fun again. Let is see how it will be on another place. Also that nice as it used to be with the friendly inhabitants, awesome colleagues, easy clients, a great place to live, a wonderful appartement, a good vehicle, fascinating work? We will see.

Everthing went so fast. After I ask when I will start I got a quick answer – too quick. I got the answer at 2 February. Lesvos!!! I already heard from the island. It is one of the closer islands to Thassos – also about 100 km away. All I know is that Lesvos is a big island, mountainous, partly green and partly desolate.
Now it is time to organize my little planned Europe trip. In each case 3 day-trip mit friends to Geneva, Switzerland, with my sister to the Mecklenburger Seenplatte, Germany, with my father to Amsterdam, Netherlands and with my mum to Copenhagen, Denmark. Two trips of them I had to squeeze into the April. So it was a very busy time. I left 14 April to Greece.
