Ankunft in Westendorf

Der Beitrag kommt zwar etwas spät, die Saison ist schon bald wieder vorbei, aber auch für mich als Erinnerung will ich nun doch etwas schreiben.

Westendorf ist eine Gemeinde mit 3597 Einwohnern im Brixental in Tirol.

Das Dorf liegt auf einer sonnigen Terrasse des Brixentals, am Fuß der Choralpe. Das Gemeindegebiet besteht aus einem Haufendorf und weiteren Weilern und Höfen in der Umgebung, sowie einem Gewerbegebiet. Nach Süden hin zweigt das Windautal ab, welches als beliebtes Naherholungsgebiet gilt.

Ein Großteil des Gemeindegebietes ist bewaldet oder landwirtschaftlich genutzt.

Mitte Dezember ging es los, in nur 8 Stunden und 15 Minuten erreichte ich abends den Bahnhof in Tirol in Westendorf. Ich wurde von meinen Kollegen Mario (Barkeeper) und Angela (Service), die auch gerade erst angekommen sind vom Bahnhof abgeholt und mir wurde gleich eine Flasche Bier in die Hand gedrückt. Das fängt ja richtig gut an, dachte ich.

Wir haben gleich die Dorfkneipe, die auch bald unsere Stammkneipe werden wird, getestet und zum Abendessen kam auch der Hausleiter Ecki an.

Die erste Gästegruppe war sehr klein; soweit ich mich erinnere; nur 13 Gäste, davon 4 Kinder. Es war sehr nett, wir haben zusammen Weihnachten gefeiert und sogar zusammen gegessen (was sonst eigentlich nicht der Fall ist, da wir ja servieren oder beim Kochen helfen). Aber bei so wenigen, war das dann doch möglich; es war auch sogar der Wunsch der Gäste.

In der nächsten Woche war das Haus voll. Es war wieder eine nette Gruppe mit denen wir Sylvester gefeiert haben. Die Kollegen sind auch super; ich kann mich wirklich nicht beschweren.

Arriving in Westendorf

The report comes a bit late the season is almost over but for my memory I will write it.

Westendorf is a municipality in the Kitzbühel district and is located 13.7 km west of Kitzbühel in the Brixental valley. The community is a popular ski resort as well as a popular location for Summer tourism especially for excursions and walking-tours. Westendorf was mentioned for the first time in documents in 1234. It has 21 village parts and the number of inhabitants are steadily increasing (current standing: 3597).

Westendorf lies on a sunny terrace of the Brixental valley, at the foot of the Choralpe. The parish consists of a clustered village and other hamlets and farmsteads in the surrounding area, as well as an industrial estate. A large part of the parish is wooded or used for agricultural purposes.

Mid December I started my eight hour and 15 minutes journey to Westendorf in Tyrol by train. My colleagues Mario the barkeeper and Angela who will work with me in service picked me up and greeted me with a beer. What a great beginning. We went to a pub in the village - which will be soon our regular one. After our boss Ecki arrived we went out for dining.

The first group of clients was pretty small. Out of my memory it was 13 including four kids. It was very nice. We celebrated Christmas and also ate together. This is usually not possible because we have to serve the food or help with the cooking but with such a small group it was not a big problem. It was also their wish.

The next week the house was full. Again very nice people we celebrated New Year´s Eve with. My colleagues are so awesome; I cannot complain at all.

Mit dem Zug ging es in das kleine Dorf Saalbach-Hinterglemm im Bundesand Salzburg, hier begann mein neuer Job bei Frosch Sportreisen als Service-Leitung. Ich war dort zur einwöchigen Schulung, um alles zu lernen, was man für den Job wissen muß.

I went by train to the small village of Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Here I started my new job at Frosch Sportreisen as a service manager. I was there for the job training for one week to learn everything what you need to know about the job.

New Job in Austria

Neuer Job in Österreich

Mein neuer Arbeitgeber ist Frosch Sportreisen. Das ist ein Reiseveranstalter, wo Gäste gleich diverse sportliche Aktivitäten mitbuchen können. Im Sommer auf jeden Fall Wandern und Mountainbiking und weiteres und im Winter hauptsächlich Skifahren. Im Sommer habe ich die sogenannten Frösche ja bereits auf Lesbos. Ich bin dort mit den Reiseleitern und Gästen einige Male wandern gewesen.

Nun hatte ich schon immer Bock, mal im Skigebiet zu arbeiten, das hat ja in Neuseeland schon nicht geklappt. Klang alles nach einem super Job.

My new employers are “Frosch Sportreisen”. This is a tour operator where you not only book the room also sport is included in the price. In the summer it is definitely hiking and mountain biking and also others depends on the destination. In winter it is mostly skiing. I already know Frosch from the summer when I went hiking with them in Greece.

I pretty much always wanted to work in the ski area. I tried it in new Zealand but it did not work out. This job sounded like a great one.

Eine Tour mit dem Jeep

So, der vollständigkeitshalber hier noch die letzten Fotos aus Griechenland. Ich habe mir einen Jeep geliehen und bin mit meiner tschechischen Kollegin und ihrem Freund auf den holperigen Wegen gefahren. Waren ein paar super Stunden und endlich durfte ich wieder Off Road fahren.

Well, for the sake of completeness here are the last pictures from Greece. I rented a four wheel drive and went with my colleague from the Czech Republic and her boyfriend. We drove off road for a few hours. Was a great day.
