Die Republik Portugal hat etwa 10 Millionen Einwohner. Zum portugiesischen Staatsgebiet gehören die Inseln der Azoren und Madeira. Der Tourismus ist eine wichtige Einnahmequelle. Mit 17 Millionen Touristen pro Jahr (gehört Portugal zu den meistbesuchten Ländern der Welt, häufigste Reiseziele sind die Algarve und die Region um die Hauptstadt Lissabon. Das Land ist daneben für den Weinanbau bekannt, insbesondere für den Portwein, und als weltweit bedeutendstes Produktionsland für Rohkork.

Kaum zu glauben, aber ich war noch niemals in Portugal. Meine Mama fährt seit ewigen Zeiten einmal im Jahr ihre Freundin besuchen, die ausgewandert ist. Ich hatte nie die Chance mitzukommen, da ich so viel unterwegs war. Nun dachte ich, es ist soweit und ich hab mich mit eingeladen.
Ich hatte über meinen Geburtstag Urlaub, insgesamt 2 Wochen und suchte uns etwa schon 3,5 Monate vorher den günstigsten Flug mit Ryanair (111,- € pro Person) raus,  zwei Tage nach meinen Geburtstag war der beste Tag. Mein Vorschlag für die Woche einen Mietagen zu nehmen wurde von meiner Mutter angenommen, so konnte sie auch mal ein wenig mehr von der Umgebung sehen. Der Wagen ist auch günstiger als der Transfer. Mit Flughafengebühr und da wir den Wagen vor den Öffnungszeiten abgeben kam noch eine Gebühr hinzu, aber der Gesamtpreis lag bei etwa 90 € für die 8 Tage.

Praia do Carvoeiro (portugiesisch für „Strand des Köhlers“), offiziell nur Carvoeiro, ist eine Kleinstadt und Gemeinde an der Algarve im Süden Portugals. Carvoeiro hat  etwa 3.000 Einwohnern und ist besonders als internationaler Urlaubsort für Badegäste bekannt.

Wir landeten in Faro und sind erstmal in die Stadt um uns dort ein wenig umzusehen, anschließend sind wir ins knapp 65 km entfernte Carvoeiro. Hier haben wir das Nachbarshaus von meiner Mutters Freundin für 5 Nächte gebucht und blieben dann die letzten 2 Nächte bei unser Auswanderin.
Wir sind bis ein wenig ins Inland, bis an die südwestlichsten Punkt Europas, haben viele Orte angeschaut wie Lagos, Portimao, Ferragudo und Faro. Wir sind an der Küste etwa 8 km entlang gewandert und wieder zurück. Mitgenommen haben wir tolle Eindrücke der Steilküste und nen schöne Sonnenbrand. Es war bewölkt und nicht zu heiß, aber die Sonnencreme hat nicht gereicht.
Abends saßen wir zusammen, haben Karten gespielt und leckeren Wein getrunken. Es war ein schöner Urlaub in einem schönem Land.

Portugal officially the Portuguese Republic is a sovereign state with a population of about 10 million and it is located on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe. It is the westernmost country of mainland Europe. To the west and south it is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and to the east and north by Spain. The Portugal–Spain border is 1,214 kilometres (754 miles) long and considered the longest uninterrupted border within the European Union. The republic also includes the Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira, both autonomous regions with their own regional governments.

Unbelivable but I have never been to Portugal. My mom goes there once a year to visit her friend who emigrated there. I never had a chance to go with her as I was always somewhere else in the world. Now was the time to invite myself.

I had granted holidays for two weeks over my birthday. 3.5 month before I looked for the cheapest flight and found one for 111,- Euros each. Two days after my birthday was the best day to leave. I suggested to hire a car for the week. My mother excepted my proposal. Now she was able to see more of the country. The car is cheaper as the transfer anyway. Including the airport fee and early drop off fee the rental car cost us just 90 Euro for the 8 days.

Carvoeiro is a town in the municipality of Lagoa, Algarve. The population is about 3,000.

We flew to Faro and first we checked out the city. In the evening we arrived Carvoeiro which is about 65 km further west. We stayed for five nights in the house right next door to my moms friend. The last two nights we stayed with her.

We drove a bit through the inland, have seen the most southwesterly point in Europe and visited some towns like Lagos, Portimao, Ferragudo and Faro. We hiked about 8 km along the coast and back. The cliffs are stunning with its pretty ochre color. It was cloudy and not really hot but the sunsreen did not save us from a bad sunburn.
In the evening we played card games and enjoyed some wine. Is was a great holiday in a lovely country.
